It is explained that the Younger Toguro had been psychologically scarred fifty years ago by a demon named Kairin, who killed all the students of his dojo. Genkai confront the Younger Toguro for blaming himself for his wrongdoings. Genkai is resurrected in the Living World as the prize for winning the tournament.
