Oscar's men rush to take Andre to a doctor, relentlessly charging through rows of firing enemy soldiers. At Tuileries, more than 10 doctors tend to his wound. Andre expresses a strong will to live, saying that he can not pass away with so many beginnings surrounding them, but dies nevertheless, smiling and crying tears. Believing that she would not be able to take charge in her despair, Oscar asks Alain to lead the group in her stead, but he persuades her to continue doing so. She wanders through the night consumed by grief, regret, and nostalgia, before collapsing from her illness in the rain...
