Galvatron creates a weapon that emits electronic-disrupting rays called the "Madmachine". As another part of this plan, he uses technology provided by Zarak to resurrect Soundwave as a black version of himself called "Soundblaster", who controls the weapon with a sonic controller. After Metroplex is used as a test subject for the Madmachine, Galvatron sends the Madmachine to Cybertron with the intent of using it on Vector Sigma.
