Souji's recognizes Ichi from the past as a former member of his gang. He warns Ichi that remnants of the Bakuro gang may be returning to Edo. Masa has recovered from his illness after spending a month with Souji and he returns to Edo with Ichi who realizes that Ume intentionally sent him to see Souji. Masa clumsily bumps into the same ronin he bumped into before and the ronin challenges Masa to a duel. They agree to use wooden swords, but Masa loses his nerve and runs away...
