Since Garmadon's defeat, Ninjago has returned to normal, with the Ninja having returned to living at the Monastery of Spinjitzu, rebuilt with a new wall full of paintings depicting all their past adventures, until being gifted a rebuilt Destiny's Bounty from the people of Ninjago. However, while Jay struggles with asking Nya a very important question, Lloyd is still concerned about his father's warnings and visits him at his cell, where Garmadon reveals that the dark forces he warned Lloyd about are indeed the Oni and now it's already too late to stop them from attacking Ninjago. Garmadon's words soon become true when a wounded Faith and the Firstbourne Dragon arrive in Ninjago to warn the Ninja about the imminent arrival of the "Bringers of Doom". A mysterious dark cloud emerges from the Realm Crystal at Borg Industries and, despite the Ninja's best efforts, quickly takes over the entire Ninjago City, turning everyone into frozen statues. Realizing that they are no match for this new enemy, Lloyd reluctantly decides to release Garmadon from his cell, as he might be the only one who knows how to defeat the Oni.
