The weekly shopping day is here. Mrs. Spiceham and Alice are going to London by carriage to buy pepper. It's expensive, but it's Mrs Spiceham's favorite spice. Alice asks to go alone. She prefers to rummage through old junk shops, which have something mysterious for her. She almost always finds something she likes on her forays. This time it's an old top hat, which she immediately buys, to the astonishment of the shopkeeper. However, if the shopkeeper had known what Alice knows, he certainly wouldn't have sold it so cheaply. Benny Bunny lives in the top hat, the nephew of the big white rabbit, the royal time announcer at the Queen of Hearts' court.
